Challenge the Wind Youth Sailing Program

Detroit Community Sailing Center

Challenge the Wind Youth Sailing Program, a non profit 501(c)(3), has expanded to create the Detroit Community Sailing Center.

Detroit Community Sailing Center is open to the public. The center will expand sailing opportunities for Detroit area youth and adults who otherwise may not get the opportunity. We are located at the historic Belle Isle Boat House on Detroit’s picturesque Belle Isle.

Participants can enjoy Detroit’s waterways and learn to sail without the cost and time commitment of boat ownership. Instructors, with years of experience, will teach using our fleet of Optimist, Club 420s, Flying Scot and Interlake training sailboats. Once a new sailor reaches a certain level of skill, they can take out boats for leisure sailing or to participate in locally organized racing regattas.

In addition to reaching a larger community, this expansion will help sustain the viability of our youth program.
